We were stranded in Cuervo from eight oclock yesterday morning until six oclock this morning while they cleared the freight train off the track ahead of us. Our train is now a little over a day late and still dragging along stopping at every little station along the line.
I was washing this morning when we passed the wreck but Mother said it was terrible. It was a good thing it was not a passenger train. Several car fell into a deep ravine after having plowed up the track for forty rods. This all had to be repaired before we could go on.
The country here dear is covered with scrub pine, they are very pretty and green. The road, a trail marked green and white, runs just along the railroad but you never see any one travelling it. The only people we see are at the little stations when we stop. We are approaching the foot hills which will eventually become mountains. I am rather anxious to see them again and will almost enjoy them this time. Darling when you come out we will take long hikes and see more of them.
I have met a very pleasant girl from Portsmouth, Ohio. We hang around a great deal together. Last night we stood out on the track and watched the sunset. It was very beautiful but darling my heart was longing for you so that I missed a great deal of it. Please dear be a good boy until you come west and do take care of yourself for I love you dear with all my heart. With a thousand kisses I will close for this time.
Lovingly yours only,
Edythe.
(over)Dear the little sprig enclosed is called Desert Holly. It is quite like the other isn't it?
